Ingredients

Mixed vegetables (capsicum, carrots & peas) finely chopped 1cup
Moong dal (split yellow gram) 1/3 cup
Toor dal (split gram) 1/3 cup
Masoor dal (split red lentils) 1/3 cup
Mustard seeds 1/2 tsp
Cumin seeds (jeera) 1/2 tsp
Curry leaves 6 to 8
Asafoetida (hing) 1/4 tsp
Green chili, chopped 1
Onion, chopped 1
Ginger-green chili paste 2 tsps
Garlic paste
Large tomato, finely chopped 1
Chili powder 1/2 tsp
Turmeric powder 1/2 tsp
oil 1 tbsp
Salt to taste
Chopped coriander, for garnishing 2 tbsps

Preparation Method

  • Wash and pressure-cook the dals together with 2 cups of water till the dals are tender. Keep aside.
  • Heat the oil in a pan and add the mustard seeds and cumin seeds. When they crackle, add the cuury leaves and asafoetida.
  • Add the green chili, onion and sauté for 3 to 4 minutes. Add the ginger-green chili paste, garlic paste, tomato and sauté for 3 to 4 more minutes.
  • Add the chilli powder, turmeric powder, mixed vegetables and mix well. Add the dals, salt and simmer for 5 to 10 minutes.
  • Garnish with the chopped coriander and serve hot.
  • Tip: You can use any left-over vegetable or curry instead of the mixed vegetables. This way you will have a different flavour each time.
